Qatar crowned WAFF champions

Doha: Boualem Khoukhi scored twice in the second half as hosts Qatar defeated Jordan 2-0 in the final of the 2014 WAFF (West Asia Football Federation) Championship on Tuesday.

France-born Khoukhi broke the deadlock seven minutes after the interval before the Lekhwiya defender doubled Qatar’s advantage with nine minutes of the match remaining to emerge as the tournament’s top scorer with six.

Khoukhi’s teammate Ali Asadalla was named the tournament MVP while the best goalkeeper award went to Bahrain skipper Sayed Mohammed Abbas.

Bahrain finished third after defeating a Kuwait side led by Iraq’s 2007 AFC Asian Cup winning coach Jorvan Vieira 3-2 on penalties after the third-place playoff finished goalless after extra time.
