On Wednesday November 4, the Women's Committee of the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) held a meeting. Proposals were presented for the 2021 competition’s agenda after the developments imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the postponement of international football activity.

WAFF General Secretary, Khalil Al Salem, attended the video-meeting. Suzanne Shalaby (Palestine) led the meeting in the presence of members of the Women's Committee, Amal Bu Shalakh (Emirates), Sheikha Noura Al-Sabah (Kuwait), Stephanie Al-Naber (Jordan) and Sheikha Dawa Bint Khalid Al Khalifa (Bahrain).

At the beginning, Al Salem welcomed the members of the committee, wishing health and safety for all in the global epidemic situation, indicating that the championships would resume in accordance with the public safety of all private federations.

In her turn, Shalabi underlined that the current hard times have taken their toll over the world’s agenda of 2020. She also assured that there’s persistence to deal with the pandemic and face it.

Shalabi added that WAFF is rescheduling its competitions to suit the international changes and is also continuing its activities and video-meetings.

She emphasized that the first and only goal of the Women's Football Committee is to achieve a balance between the health and safety of Member Associatins and the continuation of activities.

The committee agreed in principle on the proposal presented by the Competitions Committee of WAFF to organize a tournament for the U19 Girls between 1 and 11 February 2021 and another tournament for the U15 Girls between 18 and 28 February 2021. A continued follow up will take place with all decisions taken by the AFC in relation to tournaments, in addition to health follow-up in each country.

The committee also discussed the proposal to organize two additional tournaments for the U15 and U19 Girls around the end of the second half of 2021. These will be preparatory tournaments for the national teams that qualify for the second phase of the Asian qualifiers.

A decision was made to organize a tournament for the senior women’s national team during August 2021 during FIFA Days. The committee also accepted to postpone the second edition of the Women’s Club Championship to May 2021 after it was scheduled to take place in December 2020.

In this context, WAFF will hold a meeting with AFC, during next week, to coordinate its tournament agenda with the Asian championships, in 2021.

The Committee also presented the workshops that already took place like the one the female referees workshop and the female grassroots program. The Committee were also presented the program of future workshops to be organized by the WAFF, which are compatible with the needs of Member Associations.

On the other hand, WAFF will work, within its development policy, to create a strategy for the development of women's football in Iraq in cooperation with the Spanish Federation "La Liga" as both federations agreed before. During the upcoming period, meetings with the Iraq Football Association will continue to develop the appropriate strategy for developing the game.
